Sehat Sahulat services will be restored and launched Jan 16; PC-I approved for PKR 40 billion to extend UHC to ICT, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, chaired the 34th National Steering Committee meeting of the Sehat Sahulat Program in Islamabad on 12 January 2026. The Secretary NHSR&C, Special Secretary NHSR&C and the CEO of the Federal Sehat Sahulat Program attended alongside committee members to assess the programme’s immediate restoration plans.

The committee reviewed progress on reinstating Universal Health Coverage services for all permanent resident families of the Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The CEO briefed members on the Honourable Prime Minister’s directives for rapid restoration and confirmed a formal inauguration of the restored Sehat Sahulat services on 16 January 2026.

Members approved a revised PC-I estimated at approximately PKR 40 billion, extending the project timeline to 30 June 2027 to fund free hospitalization services under the UHC model for eligible permanent residents. The committee also decided to extend existing contracts with State Life Insurance Corporation and NADRA through addenda to ensure uninterrupted operations while outstanding liabilities will be cleared from PSDP as directed by the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the meeting, the minister underlined the need for Pakistan to adopt modern health insurance and strategic purchasing approaches rather than direct hospital management to secure quality, efficiency and dignity in service delivery. The Sehat Sahulat restoration and expansion plans will proceed ahead of the Prime Minister’s scheduled launch on 16 January 2026, InshaAllah.
