The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling illegal encroachments on government properties in accordance with the law. Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt, accompanied by Senator Pervaiz Rashid and other committee members, visited several encroached properties, including those in Chamba House, Wafaqi Colony, Federal Lodges, and flats on Edgerton Road.

During a subsequent meeting held at Chamba House, the committee reviewed cases of illegal occupation of land and examined issues related to the Pakistan Public Works Department. Senator Butt instructed relevant authorities to provide complete documentation regarding the occupied properties, emphasizing that illegal possession would not be tolerated and any action taken would strictly follow legal procedures.

Senator Butt clarified that both federal and provincial governments do not endorse encroachments, noting that the Punjab government is already actively addressing the issue. Responding to further questions, he asserted that there are no political prisoners in the country under the current administration.

Addressing broader political matters, Senator Butt criticized the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for previously making unfounded allegations, highlighting that the former PTI leader now faces a lengthy prison sentence for corruption. He urged all political parties to set aside personal interests and work together for the development and prosperity of the country, calling for a constructive role from the opposition.

The meeting was also attended by Senator Niaz Ahmad, Senator Muhammad Aslam Abro, Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan, and other officials.
