SHARP–Pakistan hosted a high-level strategic meeting with officials from the Canadian High Commission aimed at strengthening efforts to protect Afghan refugees. The discussion addressed current challenges in refugee protection under the International Framework for Refugee Protection, focusing on emerging risks and future collaboration.
The visit began with a guided tour of SHARP’s Reception Desk Center (RDC), where senior SHARP officials outlined the organization’s operational structure and core services. The team emphasized protection protocols designed to support vulnerable populations with dignity and efficiency.
During the meeting, SHARP’s leadership, including CEO Mudassar Javed, Program Officer Tayba Hafeez, and Protection Lawyer Ayesha Saeed, highlighted growing concerns about human trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of exploitation affecting refugees. The group provided a detailed overview of these challenges and discussed current measures in place to address them.
Participants reviewed ongoing implementation of the International Framework for Refugee Protection (Phase 3). They jointly identified areas where further support is needed and explored new strategies to bolster humanitarian response and protection for Afghan refugees. SHARP reiterated its commitment to offering legal aid, psychosocial support, and evidence-based advocacy to those in need.
Both SHARP and the Canadian High Commission representatives agreed on the importance of continued collaboration. Key future initiatives discussed included technical cooperation, joint advocacy efforts, and mobilizing additional resources to ensure that Afghan refugees receive dignified and sustainable protection.
