SHARP builds legal capacity in Nowshera with a workshop for 52 lawyers to enhance refugee protection and rights awareness across KP.

Society for Human Rights and Prisoners’ Aid (SHARP) organized a protection-focused capacity building workshop in District Nowshera, bringing together 52 lawyers (28 male & 14 female) to enhance legal capacity for inclusive protection of vulnerable communities.

Hamid Latif, Protection Officer at SHARP, opened the session with a welcome address outlining SHARP’s mandate and protection interventions, while Amir Hamza, UN partner representative, briefed participants on ongoing projects and potential collaboration in the region.

The technical sessions focused on core protection and rights frameworks. Prof. Nadeem Farid covered human rights, international human rights law, fundamental rights in the Constitution of Pakistan and international humanitarian law, and Mr. Salman Farooq, Protection Officer, discussed the international protection framework and refugee protection in migration and repatriation contexts, reinforcing practical ways to apply these principles in KP legal practice.

The event was attended by senior Bar leadership, including Mian Arshad Jan, President District Bar Nowshera, as chief guest, and Fawad, General Secretary District Bar Nowshera, as guest of honor. Mian Irshad Advocate praised SHARP’s efforts and emphasized the value of such professional development for lawyers who support vulnerable populations.

At closing, Memoona Batool Khan, Project Director SHARP KP, thanked the Bar leadership and participants for their engagement. Certificates were presented by the chief guest, and SHARP’s team was commended for advancing legal capacity and practical protection measures that strengthen access to justice for refugees and other at-risk groups in Nowshera.
