Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President Ilham Aliyev at the Presidential Palace in Baku today, in a meeting that was also attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Army Staff. The leaders held detailed talks on bilateral relations and regional matters of mutual concern.
The Prime Minister thanked President Aliyev for the invitation to attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations and felicitated the government and people of Azerbaijan on the historic outcome of the 44-day Karabakh Liberation War. He described the victory as a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples striving for self-determination, including the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
Both sides reviewed the full range of ties and agreed to further deepen Pakistan Azerbaijan ties across multiple areas. They committed to strengthen cooperation in political dialogue, trade and investments, energy partnership, connectivity projects and defence collaboration, underscoring the strategic importance of closer economic and security links.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a formal invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, an invitation which the President graciously accepted. The Prime Minister welcomed the historic peace agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia earlier this year, while President Aliyev expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s consistent support for Azerbaijan in its struggle against the illegal occupation of the Karabagh region and lauded Pakistan’s role in promoting stability in South Asia.
