The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges of the National Assembly unanimously recommended the suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Crime Control Department (CCD), Gujrat, for breaching parliamentary privilege and initiating a false media campaign against Member of National Assembly (MNA), Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed Abbas. The Regional Police Officer (RPO), Gujrat, assured the committee that a departmental inquiry would be conducted and disciplinary actions taken, with a report submitted to the committee subsequently.
The recommendation for suspension followed detailed deliberations during the committee’s meeting held at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Member National Assembly Mr. Muhammad Afzal. The committee members expressed serious concern over the SHO’s alleged breach of privilege, emphasizing the need for immediate disciplinary measures.
Additionally, the committee discussed proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, introduced by MNA Syed Rafiullah. After initial deliberation, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs requested further consultation, leading the committee to refer these amendments to the House Business Advisory Committee. This advisory committee will now engage representatives of all political parties for further consideration.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed Abbas, Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Mr. Waseem Qadir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Mr. Ramesh Lal, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, Ms. Aniqa Mehdi, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, and the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs. In addition, Syed Rafiullah, the proposer of the amendments, was present during discussions.
The session was also attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Justice, Interior, Islamabad Police, Punjab Police, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), reflecting broad participation from relevant stakeholders.
