The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Pakistan Office, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan, has officially launched a major project to boost agricultural productivity and improve village water supply in the flood-affected regions of Sindh Province. With an investment of eight million dollars and running from 2025 to 2029, the initiative aims to help communities recover from the devastating floods of 2022 by rehabilitating farmland and installing critical water infrastructure.
At the project’s inception ceremony, key representatives from KOICA, UNDP, the Government of Sindh, and Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division gathered to mark the beginning of this collaborative effort. The project will focus on restoring damaged agricultural land, repairing underground water wells, and setting up household water supply systems in the regions that suffered the worst flood damage. These measures are designed to improve food security and raise the standard of living for local residents.
Je ho Yeon, Country Director of KOICA Pakistan, emphasized the urgent need for restoring water infrastructure and agricultural capacity in Sindh, expressing optimism that the project will make meaningful contributions to building sustainable livelihoods. He also thanked the Government of Sindh, the Economic Affairs Division, and UNDP for their partnership in this important effort.
Naila Sarfaraz Bhatti, Assistant Chief at the Government of Sindh, noted the significance of the project and expressed hope for its successful implementation on the ground. She highlighted how the collaboration between KOICA and UNDP is set to strengthen rural livelihoods and essential services for families affected by the floods.
KOICA has pledged to continue working closely with local and international partners to address challenges brought on by climate change and to help build resilient communities capable of coping with disasters in the future.
