Sindh launches EV Pink Taxi to empower women with women-only rides and female drivers, offering free training and licenses to create jobs.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced in Karachi the launch of an EV Pink Taxi service, a new women-only transport option following the provincial Pink Bus Service and Scooty initiative.

The minister said the service will allow only women passengers and that all taxi drivers will be women. The provincial government will provide free driving licenses and training to women, a move designed to open employment paths for thousands.

Memon recalled that when free bikes were first introduced only 150 women held driving licenses; since then roughly 20,000 women have applied for licenses, highlighting growing female participation in transport.

The Sindh Transport Department has already introduced Pakistan’s first electric bus and launched the Pink Bus Service, where both driver and conductor are women—projects that drew international attention and set the stage for the new EV Pink Taxi.

Under the Chief Minister’s direction, the provincial team is advancing multiple large projects as part of efforts to deliver on promises and create opportunities for youth while strengthening women’s role across the transport sector.
