The World Health Organization (WHO) has joined forces with the Government of Sindh to launch a major vaccination drive targeting around 1.5 million children who missed essential immunizations over recent years. The campaign is part of the #BigCatchUp initiative, which aims to reach children left unprotected due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters such as floods, and other obstacles.

Focusing on children aged two to five—considered particularly vulnerable—the campaign seeks to address gaps left by interrupted routine immunization services. Many children in this age group did not receive their scheduled vaccinations, putting them at increased risk for diseases that are preventable through immunization.

WHO is providing technical guidance, logistical support, and monitoring to ensure that the vaccination program is effective and inclusive. Health officials are working closely with WHO experts to deliver vaccines in hard-to-reach and underserved districts across Sindh. The effort also places significant emphasis on restoring public trust in routine immunization by ensuring safety and accessibility throughout the campaign.

This initiative is part of a wider global effort to address immunization gaps that have widened, especially in regions where vaccination coverage remains low. The strategy aims not only to protect individual children but also prevent potential outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases and help the country get back on track with its child health goals.

Officials hope that the successful implementation of this drive in Sindh will serve as an example for similar catch-up campaigns in other provinces, helping ensure that no child is left behind and that progress in public health is maintained.
