The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) participated in an awareness session at The Centaurus Mall, Islamabad, to promote understanding of the Single-Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulations, 2023. The event aimed to educate vendors, shopkeepers, and food outlet owners about the detrimental effects of single-use plastics and the necessity of adhering to new government regulations.
During the session, the Director (Lab/NEQS) from Pak-EPA presented an overview of the key provisions under the Single-Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulations, 2023, and fielded questions from attendees regarding implementation and compliance. Participants were informed about the environmental harms caused by single-use plastics, such as pollution and threats to public health and wildlife.
In addition to emphasizing regulatory compliance, the session provided practical guidance on transitioning to eco-friendly alternatives. Attendees learned about a range of sustainable products already available in the market, encouraging businesses to adopt these options in place of single-use plastic items. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by government agencies and commercial establishments to foster environmental responsibility within Islamabad’s business community.
