A fire emergency evacuation exercise was successfully conducted today at Skardu International Airport as part of the mandatory twice-yearly drills that test procedures and readiness. The exercise aimed to confirm that staff and emergency teams can respond quickly to protect passengers and airport operations.
During the scenario there were 35 individuals inside the terminal when the fire alarm was activated. Airport Fire Services reacted immediately and controlled the situation while coordinating with other on-site teams. Evacuation procedures were executed efficiently and 34 people were safely moved out of the terminal within two minutes.
Airport crews carried out a secondary search after the initial evacuation and discovered one injured person. The individual received first aid on site before being shifted to Benazir Hospital for further medical care. Firefighters reported that the incident was contained without escalation and that emergency protocols functioned as intended.
The COO and Airport Manager praised the coordinated response of all agencies involved and underlined the importance of regular drills in strengthening safety, preparedness and stakeholder cooperation. Continued testing and collaboration at Skardu Airport will remain a priority to ensure passenger safety and operational resilience.
