US-based entrepreneur and recipient of the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Tanweer Ahmed, has pledged $250,000 to support Pakistan’s Smart Villages initiative. This major commitment aims to help bridge the digital divide and promote technological development in rural areas of the country.
The initial phase of the project will see the development of five Smart Villages, each receiving an investment of $50,000. These villages will benefit from enhanced digital infrastructure, modern educational resources, and improved connectivity, enabling local communities to better access economic and social opportunities.
The announcement was made in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Officials hailed the initiative as a significant milestone in advancing digital inclusion and fostering sustainable growth across Pakistan.
Tanweer Ahmed, originally from Sialkot and now based in the United States, is recognized for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to giving back to his homeland. His investment in the Smart Villages program underscores the importance of engaging the Pakistani diaspora in national development efforts. More villages are expected to be added to the program in future phases, further supporting the government’s vision of a smarter, more connected Pakistan.
