Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq convenes Parliament meeting on water security and food security; WAPDA outlines reservoirs, ongoing projects and future needs.

Islamabad, 9 December 2025 — Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq chaired a high-level meeting at Parliament House to address national challenges of water security and food security. The session brought together Members of the National Assembly, the Chairman of WAPDA Lieutenant General (R) Muhammad Saeed, and senior officials from the Ministry of Water Resources to discuss coordinated responses.

The Speaker underscored that water security is among the most serious issues facing the country and called for urgent, effective measures from all stakeholders. Because of the sensitivity of the matter, opposition members were specially invited to ensure inclusive deliberation and to help shape a comprehensive national strategy through collective decision-making.

Speaker Sadiq emphasized that protecting water resources and tackling food security are essential to safeguard Pakistan’s future. He urged national unity and collaborative efforts, saying sustainable solutions require inclusive dialogue and joint action across political and institutional lines.

Chairman WAPDA Lieutenant General (R) Muhammad Saeed provided a detailed briefing on the nation’s water challenges, current reservoir status, ongoing infrastructure projects and the requirements for future interventions. The briefing shaped the discussion around priority actions and resource needs to strengthen water security and support food production.

Participants agreed on the need to translate discussions into a coordinated plan that balances immediate measures with long-term investments. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continued consultation among parliamentarians, WAPDA and the Ministry of Water Resources to develop actionable steps that address water security and food security together.
