SPO and NARI with IRC and EU-funded SIGN Nutrition held a provincial consultation to strengthen Sindh Nutrition law implementation and fight malnutrition.

NARI Foundation and Strengthening Participatory Organization – SPO, in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee and under the EU-funded SIGN Nutrition Project, convened a provincial level policy advocacy consultation in Sindh to address the persistent challenge of malnutrition. The meeting focused on practical pathways to accelerate Sindh Nutrition goals by improving coordination and enforcement of existing laws.

The consultation concentrated on effective implementation of three key statutes: the Sindh Breastfeeding & Young Child Nutrition Act 2023, the Salt Iodization Act 2013, and the Sindh Food Fortification Act 2021. Discussions examined legal provisions, gaps in rollout, and how the regulatory framework can better protect infant and young child nutrition across the province.

Under the SIGN Nutrition Project funded by the European Union in Pakistan, partner organizations shared experiences and explored policy advocacy strategies to drive the Sindh Nutrition agenda forward. The session emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between government bodies, development partners, and grassroots organizations to translate legislation into measurable health outcomes.

Participants highlighted that stronger implementation of the breastfeeding, salt iodization, and food fortification laws can directly impact maternal and child nutrition indicators in Sindh. The consultation concluded with a call for concrete follow-up actions to ensure that the Sindh Nutrition commitments are transformed into practical interventions at the community level.
