Sudanese engineers earned CAD/CAM/CNC certificates at NUTECH under COMSTECH, boosting technical skills and Pakistan-Sudan cooperation.

A cohort of around 20 Sudanese engineers were presented with completion certificates after finishing an intensive CAD/CAM/CNC Operations and Machine Building course held at the National University of Technology in Islamabad.

The Certificate Distribution Ceremony took place at NUTECH where H.E. Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddig, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Pakistan, attended as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, participated as guest of honour, and Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Moazzam Ejaz, HI(M), Rector NUTECH, joined senior officials, academics and partner representatives for the event.

The course, hosted by NUTECH and sponsored by COMSTECH, aimed to strengthen technical capacity and advance South-South cooperation among OIC member states. The programme focused on practical skills and industry-relevant training to ensure Sudanese engineers return with applied competencies that support local industrial development.

Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Science and Technology, praised the joint COMSTECH–NUTECH initiative and noted that such collaborative programmes are vital for capacity building and enhanced scientific cooperation across member countries.

Rector NUTECH, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Moazzam Ejaz, highlighted the university’s commitment to hands-on, practice-oriented education aligned with modern industrial needs and reaffirmed NUTECH’s support for international capacity-building partnerships. He expressed confidence that the trained engineers will make meaningful contributions to Sudan’s industrial and technical sectors.

The training provided extensive practical exposure to modern manufacturing technologies, including computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), CNC machine operations and machine building techniques. Participants gained supervised experience on equipment such as CNC wood routers, drilling and tapping machines, welding units, aluminium cutting machines, tool grinders and shaper machines under the guidance of NUTECH faculty and technical experts.

Accommodation and welfare arrangements for the visiting engineers were coordinated by the Prime Institute of Health Sciences. The successful completion and certificate distribution reflect COMSTECH’s ongoing efforts to promote applied research, technology transfer and international technical cooperation, further strengthening academic and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Sudan while enhancing the capabilities of Sudanese engineers.
