Suhail Afridi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secured 90 votes to become the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, surpassing the required 73 votes in the provincial assembly. The result was announced after a full session convened to elect the new leader of the house.
The assembly session was presided over by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, who also took part in the voting process. The decisive margin underlined strong support for Afridi within the legislature and concluded the formal contest for the province’s top executive post.
During proceedings, Ali Amin Gandapur addressed the assembly and reiterated that he had submitted his resignation the same day he received instructions from party leadership. He said the decision reflected his commitment to party directives and personal principles, adding that he felt vindicated by acting on those orders and that his record of service was open to public judgment.
The election of Suhail Afridi marks a new chapter for the provincial government as the chief minister prepares to take on administrative responsibilities with the backing shown in the assembly vote.
