NCRC and Swat authorities assess Swat floods impact on children and call for federal funds to speed shelter, health response and education recovery.

NCRC representatives from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa convened with Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan and officials from Education, Health, the Child Protection Unit, Khapal Kor and Qatar Charity to review the Swat floods impact on children and the ongoing rehabilitation measures.

Officials reported that damage to school infrastructure has affected more than 24,000 children, prompting temporary arrangements such as second shifts and relocating pupils to nearby schools to keep learning uninterrupted while permanent repairs are planned.

Work is under way to map vulnerable schools situated along rivers and other high-risk locations so authorities can prioritise interventions and reduce future disaster exposure. Health departments raised concerns over a rise in dengue and malaria cases in affected areas and have deployed medical teams to manage outbreaks and support impacted families.

During the meeting five orphaned children were identified, and Khapal Kor and Qatar Charity committed to provide shelter and educational support. Authorities also confirmed that over 500 houses were damaged and that compensation measures have been provided to affected families to assist immediate recovery.

All participating departments urged the federal government to allocate dedicated funds for rehabilitation and recovery. The NCRC stressed the need for strengthened inter-departmental coordination and timely allocation of provincial and federal resources to ensure full recovery and to protect children impacted by the Swat floods.
