TWG meeting in Islamabad advances Community Case Management to integrate TB, HIV and malaria services and strengthen referrals for equitable care.

The Technical Working Group on Integrated Community Case Management convened in Islamabad on 3rd September under the chairmanship of Dr. Muhammad Ayyaz Mustafa, Deputy National Coordinator of the Common Management Unit. The meeting brought together representatives from WHO, VBD and CDC Sindh, IVMP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, MCM Balochistan and NRSP, along with three WHO national professional officers for TB, HIV and malaria to discuss coordinated action.

Delegates focused on strengthening integrated and collaborative efforts among the three disease programmes to improve service delivery and fortify the health system. Emphasis was placed on aligning strategies so Community Case Management interventions can better reach underserved populations and deliver equitable, quality healthcare across provinces.

Key discussion points included accelerating integration into Primary Health Care, advancing Universal Health Coverage, and reinforcing referral systems to ensure patients receive timely and coordinated treatment. Participants highlighted the need for disease-specific integration while maintaining people centred service delivery so that TB, HIV and malaria responses are accessible, coordinated and sustainable at the community level.

The group underscored the importance of provincial collaboration and continued engagement with WHO and other partners to operationalise Community Case Management priorities within Pakistan’s health framework, aiming to translate the meeting’s outcomes into strengthened primary health services nationwide.
