Mohamed Yahya, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, used UN Day to deliver a message of hope, courage and confidence, recalling words once spoken by Mohammed Ali Jinnah. He noted that when Jinnah delivered those words 78 years ago he lit hope in millions and rallied a young and hurting nation to keep its eyes fixed on a brighter tomorrow.
The UN Charter, drafted in the rubble of the Second World War, promised a better tomorrow where peace is possible and all humans live in dignity and equality. Today marks 80 years since that treaty first came into force, and Yahya stressed that the UN Charter’s values have not aged a day, remaining central to international cooperation and humanitarian work in Pakistan.
Yahya’s remarks link historical conviction with present challenges, underscoring the importance of solidarity and continued commitment to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. His appeal resonates across Pakistan as institutions and communities reflect on unity, resilience and the shared responsibility to pursue peace and equality.
