On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Ms. Samia Nazir, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), visited the KOICA Pakistan Office to discuss strengthening climate resilience in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. The meeting focused on coordinated efforts to enhance WASH resilience amid growing climate risks.
The MoCC underscored that Pakistan is highly vulnerable to climate change and has faced severe impacts from frequent floods in recent years. Officials stressed that ensuring access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation is now a pressing national priority as flood events continue to disrupt water supplies and basic hygiene services.
KOICA reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with MoCC and other relevant stakeholders to develop and expand sustainable projects that address these urgent needs. Emphasizing WASH resilience, KOICA aims to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to respond to climate shocks while supporting the consistent provision of clean and safe water to affected communities.
Both parties agreed to pursue coordinated project development and scaling of interventions that improve water security and sanitation across vulnerable areas. The emphasis will remain on sustainable, long-term solutions that align immediate flood response with lasting public health and infrastructure improvements.
The meeting marked a mutual pledge to deepen collaboration so that WASH resilience is reinforced at national and community levels, helping Pakistan better withstand and recover from climate-related disasters.
