A high-level seminar focused on women’s leadership and innovation in agriculture convened leading policymakers, development partners, and entrepreneurs in Quetta, aiming to advance women’s empowerment and sustainable growth in Pakistan’s rural economy. Supported by the European Union’s GRASP programme, the event highlighted the importance of gender inclusion, innovation, and collaboration in transforming the agricultural sector.
Key federal and provincial figures attended the seminar, including Mr. Sheikh Jaffar KHAN Mandokhail, Governor of Balochistan; Ms. Wajiha Qamar, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training; Mr. Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety; Ms. Raheela Hameed Durrani, Provincial Minister of Education; and Ms. Rubaba Khan Buledi, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Women Development. Their presence underscored the growing commitment at multiple levels of government towards fostering inclusive rural development.
A panel discussion explored strategies for promoting sustainable agriculture by embracing innovation and ensuring social inclusion, particularly for women. Participants shared insights into overcoming challenges and unlocking opportunities for female farmers and entrepreneurs, reflecting a strong consensus on the need for policy and community support.
During the event, the fourth Matching Grants Cheque Distribution Ceremony was conducted, providing direct financial support to deserving recipients. In addition, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) had the opportunity to showcase their agri-based products and innovative solutions, illustrating the sector’s potential for growth and modernization.
Organised jointly by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), the Government of Balochistan, and Paigham-e-Pakistan, the seminar also engaged a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including the Balochistan Rural Support Programme, Taraqee Foundation, and Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO). GRASP, the flagship programme implemented by the International Trade Centre in partnership with the PPAF, FAO and SMEDA, provided the framework for the initiative.
The seminar reinforced the shared commitment to empowering women in agriculture, acknowledging that their leadership and entrepreneurial skills are essential for building a prosperous and inclusive future for Pakistan’s rural communities.
