They’re Not Just Riding Scooties — Our Daughters Are Riding Their Dreams
By: Zaheer Ahmad Awan
When a young woman rides a scooty through the bustling streets of our cities, it’s not merely a ride it’s a symbol of independence, resilience, and the courage to chase dreams.
This is the era of change, where women no longer depend on others to move forward; they are steering their own lives with confidence and dignity.
In a time of economic hardship, unemployment, inflation, and unaffordable transport, women choosing to ride their own scooties is a positive and progressive transformation.Every day, we see mothers taking their children to school, daughters heading to universities, sisters commuting to offices, and wives accompanying their elderly parents to hospitals.
These scenes reflect not just mobility but the spirit of empowerment.
Indeed, these women are not just riding scooties; they are riding their dreams.
Islamic Perspective The Dignity and Respect of Women Islam has given women unparalleled respect and honor. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:“The best among you are those who are best to their women.”(Tirmidhi)
In Islam, the woman as a mother, sister, daughter, or wife is a source of mercy and blessing.Protecting her dignity and ensuring her safety is a moral, social, and religious duty of every man.
Unfortunately, some individuals in our society still treat women riding on roads with mockery, harassment, or indecent gestures.
Such behavior is not only immoral and un-Islamic but also exposes a deep moral decline.Every driver, motorcyclist, and pedestrian must remember that a woman on the road is someone’s daughter or sister she deserves space, safety, and respect.Do not race against her, overtake recklessly, or intimidate her with aggressive driving.
Respect on the road is a reflection of one’s character, upbringing, and faith.
The Role of Law and Social AwarenessSadly, harassment on roads remains a challenge in many cities of Pakistan.
Authorities must use Safe City surveillance cameras to identify and punish those who harass women.
This is not just law enforcement it is a moral message to society that respecting women is non-negotiable.
The growing presence of women riding scooties in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar is a welcome sign.
It reflects the rise of a new, confident generation.
However, for this progress to continue, the government must ensure safety, awareness, and accessibility.Global Examples Empowering Women on the Move Across Asia in Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, China, and Thailand millions of women commute daily on two-wheelers.Their governments have created training programs, safe lanes, dedicated parking zones, and women-only traffic workshops.
The result? Women enjoy equal mobility and independence without fear or judgment.
Pakistan, too, can follow this model. The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Women Development should launch programs to provide affordable or free scooties for working women and female students.
Importing low-cost, high-quality scooters from China could empower thousands of women while boosting the local economy.
Ethical Responsibility The Real Test for Men Respecting women is not a weakness; it is the true measure of a man’s character and faith.
If we wish our daughters to be respected, we must first respect the daughters of others.A society that honors its women earns the blessing of stability, peace, and moral progress.Every time a woman rides her scooty, she is not defying culture she is reshaping it.The real test for our society is not how many women drive, but how safely and respectfully we let them drive. Our daughters and sisters are the backbone of this nation.Their freedom, dignity, and confidence define our collective identity.
When a woman rides her scooty, she represents not rebellion but responsibility and resilience.Let us build a Pakistan where every woman can travel freely, safely, and proudly.Because these women are not just riding scooties they are riding their dreams, and it is our duty to protect their journey.
