A one-day workshop in Islamabad brought together more than 80 participants during the 16 Days of Activism to confront digital violence and promote digital safety for women and girls, including those who are forcibly displaced.
Organised by UNFPA Pakistan, UNHCR and IOM Pakistan, the event reinforced this year’s theme that digital violence is real violence and outlined the heightened risks women and girls face in online spaces. Speakers highlighted the need for practical measures to prevent harm and to support survivors.
UNHCR Assistant Representative for Protection Ms. Kiran Kaur pointed out that violence is rooted in unequal power and harmful social norms, and reaffirmed UNHCR’s commitment to strengthening gender-based violence prevention, response and community awareness across Pakistan while supporting digital safety initiatives for women and girls.
Participants called on government, humanitarian and community actors to invest in the safety, dignity and rights of all women and girls so they can live free from fear, stressing that coordinated action is essential to tackle digital violence and protect the forcibly displaced.
