The Higher Education Commission (HEC), in partnership with Aiming Change for Tomorrow (ACT) International and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), recently organized a seminar at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Sheringal, Dir Upper, promoting mental health and emotional well-being through the National Youth Helpline (0800-69457). The event highlighted the critical role of mental health support services available to young people, included awareness sessions on drug abuse prevention, and encouraged youth engagement in maintaining psychological wellness.

Attended by over 250 students, the seminar underscored the significant impact that emotional and psychological well-being has on youth empowerment and success. In his remarks, Asif Hussain, Director of HEC’s Research & Analysis Activities (R&AA), stressed the vital importance of mental wellness in enabling young people to actively and positively contribute to society.

Additionally, representatives from ANF Pakistan delivered a compelling session dedicated to raising awareness on drug abuse prevention. Following their presentation, attendees joined an awareness walk designed to reinforce the message and engage students directly in promoting a drug-free environment.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahab praised the initiation of the National Youth Helpline as a timely and essential measure, highlighting that the development of a healthy mind can have transformative impacts on individuals and their communities. Echoing similar sentiments, the Pro-Vice Chancellor commended HEC, ACT International, and UNFPA for their collaborative efforts in supporting youth through initiatives focused on mental health and emotional resilience.
