Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani pledged in Multan that the government will remain by the side of flood-affected families until their complete rehabilitation. The Gilani relief commitment came during a relief distribution ceremony where he reiterated that restoring lives and livelihoods is a top priority.
Gilani described the recent floods as devastating, saying homes, farmlands, businesses and livestock have been lost across the country. He stressed that authorities share the grief of every affected family and will work to ensure families can return to their homes with dignity.
He commended organisations that have been delivering daily support, including the Farmer Development Organization, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, Mukhtar A. Sheikh Hospital and Pakistan Sweet Homes, noting their role in providing food, shelter and essential supplies to thousands. Gilani also announced that orphaned children would receive full educational support and ongoing care as part of rehabilitation efforts.
While underscoring the government’s responsibility, Gilani appealed to philanthropists, traders and industrialists to join the relief drive, saying that collaboration with civil society and provincial authorities is essential to rebuild stronger communities. He added that these dark days will pass and that joint efforts are needed to restore livelihoods.
MNA Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani said 5,000 meals are being distributed daily in his constituency and assured victims they will not be abandoned. Present at the event were:
- Syed Ali Haider Gilani, Chairman Public Accounts Committee Punjab
- MPA Kamran Abdullah
- Ghulam Mustafa (FDO)
- Zuhra Sajjad
The Gilani relief pledge in Multan emphasised sustained government action, targeted support for vulnerable families and a call for private-sector cooperation to ensure long-term recovery for flood-impacted communities.
