Former Prime Minister pledges to take FMG concerns on PMDC policies to relevant platforms for resolution
Islamabad: A delegation of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), led by Dr. Rafey Sher, met with former Prime Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf to discuss the challenges faced by Pakistani doctors who have completed their medical education abroad. The meeting focused on the recent policies of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), which FMGs say have created unnecessary barriers to their professional licensing despite full compliance with academic and clinical standards.
Raja Pervez Ashraf, known for his empathetic leadership and understanding of public issues, listened attentively to the delegation’s concerns and expressed solidarity with their cause. He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fairness, and the protection of young doctors’ rights, acknowledging the essential role they play in strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare system.
“Doctors are the backbone of any nation’s health infrastructure,” Mr. Ashraf said, adding that these young professionals deserve recognition and support rather than bureaucratic challenges. He assured the FMG delegation that their matter will be raised at appropriate governmental and parliamentary platforms, and promised to pursue a constructive and practical resolution in consultation with the relevant authorities.
The FMG representatives expressed deep gratitude for Mr. Ashraf’s encouraging response and acknowledged the continued support of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who has consistently advocated for youth empowerment, education, and professional advancement.
Dr. Rafey Sher thanked the former Prime Minister for his time and support, expressing confidence that the dialogue would pave the way for policy reforms that protect the future of qualified Pakistani doctors returning from abroad.
