Abu Dhabi has rolled out an artificial intelligence system designed to predict the risk of serious illnesses such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease before symptoms appear, using a patient’s full medical history to enable earlier clinical action.
According to the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the advanced model analyses comprehensive health records to flag early warning signs and support proactive care. Ibrahim Al Jallaf, Executive Director of Digital Health, said the system assesses the risk of 14 major diseases and identifies underlying causes that increase susceptibility, giving clinicians clearer insight into prevention opportunities.
The predictive tool is fully integrated across hospitals and clinics in the emirate, allowing physicians instant access to patient information through the Malaffi platform. This connectivity ensures that risk scores and clinical drivers are available at the point of care, supporting timely interventions.
Alongside the risk profiling system, two large language models have been introduced to assist clinicians with real-time medical insights during consultations and to provide health guidance to the public. These LLMs aim to streamline decision-making and improve the accessibility of medical information for both professionals and patients.
The initiative is linked to the Next-Gen Wellness Program and the Smart Healthcare Platform, which combine wearable technology, AI-powered analytics and physician-led care. The cloud-based ecosystem connects hospitals, clinics and diagnostics to enable faster, more data-driven treatment decisions and continuous monitoring for personalised wellness plans.
Health experts describe the move as a major step in predictive medicine, shifting focus from treatment to prevention. Abu Dhabi’s experience with AI disease prediction, its population-wide approach and the integration of digital tools offer practical lessons for health systems elsewhere, including for Pakistani policy makers and private sector stakeholders exploring scalable preventive care solutions.
