At the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in Beijing, the ECO Science Foundation actively contributed to a roundtable on the proposal for the International Program on Resilience for Emerging Disaster Risks, commonly referred to as REDR. The delegation underscored the urgency of coordinated action as climate-driven hazards grow more complex across the region.
President ECOSF Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi emphasized the need for stronger regional cooperation and the adoption of science, technology and innovation driven resilience frameworks to reduce vulnerabilities. He urged alignment between the proposed program and the ECO Regional Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to ensure that measures are practical, scalable and informed by evidence.
The ECOSF intervention at IC-CCDRR highlighted how a focus on STI-based approaches can strengthen preparedness and response across ECO member states, including Pakistan. By supporting REDR resilience efforts and harmonizing them with existing regional strategies, ECOSF aims to help build safer, more resilient communities capable of facing emerging disaster risks.
