Pakistan advances its Blue Economy under URAAN Pakistan Vision 2035, promoting smart ports, green tech and coastal empowerment for sustainable growth.

At PIMEC 2025 in Karachi, Federal Minister for Planning Prof. Ahsan Iqbal outlined a national strategy that positions the Blue Economy as a transformative engine of sustainable growth and a cornerstone of URAAN Pakistan Vision 2035 as the country moves toward a $1 trillion economy.

“Progress without pollution, and prosperity without depletion, this is our commitment to the seas,” the minister said, underlining a pledge to balance economic expansion with environmental stewardship across maritime sectors.

Prof. Iqbal highlighted that trade, ports, shipping and logistics will be modernised alongside fisheries, coastal tourism, renewable energy and marine technology, creating hubs of regional connectivity and green innovation. The Blue Economy will guide policies that link technology and sustainability to deliver inclusive prosperity for coastal communities.

The minister praised the Pakistan Navy for its leadership in advancing maritime excellence and reaffirmed a national commitment to develop smart ports and adopt green technologies that protect marine ecosystems while boosting economic output.

Under URAAN Pakistan Vision 2035, the Blue Economy integrates the pillars of Exports, Environment & Climate Change, Energy & Infrastructure, and Equity & Empowerment, ensuring that trade and technology support environmental resilience and social inclusion across the coastline.

By centring the Blue Economy in policy and investment, Pakistan aims to translate maritime potential into sustainable jobs, expanded exports and stronger regional ties as part of its broader economic renewal.
