Pakistan and US Deepen TVET Partnership

Ms Wajiha Qamar and US Chargé Natalie Baker agree to expand TVET partnership to boost teacher training, digital learning and youth skills in Pakistan.

Islamabad, November 7, 2025 — Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Ms Wajiha Qamar met with United States Chargé d’Affaires Ms Natalie A. Baker at her office in Islamabad. The U.S. delegation included Mr Andrew Halus, Minister Counselor; Ms Heidi Smith, Public Affairs Officer; and Mr Sabir Sharif, Program Management Specialist.

Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation across the education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training sectors, with a clear emphasis on expanding partnerships for skill development, teacher training, digital education and youth empowerment. Discussions focused on practical collaboration that can scale up learning opportunities and workplace-ready skills while strengthening the digital learning ecosystem as part of the TVET partnership.

Ms Wajiha Qamar welcomed the longstanding U.S. support for Pakistan’s education initiatives, noting the importance of inclusive learning, girls’ education and capacity-building programs. She underscored the government’s priority to align education and training with emerging market needs so that Pakistan’s youth are better prepared for a rapidly changing global economy.

Ms Natalie A. Baker reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to advance educational reform, innovation and technical training in Pakistan. She highlighted the successes of ongoing U.S.-funded education programs and expressed interest in deeper cooperation in research, teacher development and strengthening digital education platforms.

Both delegations agreed to explore new opportunities to enhance access, equity and quality in education and TVET, aiming to contribute to Pakistan’s human capital development and broader socio-economic progress. Officials indicated follow-up consultations to identify specific programs and partnerships that can be scaled across provinces to deliver measurable benefits for students and young workers under the TVET partnership.
