Sindh advances child labour action plan with stakeholders to protect children through wages, education and stronger enforcement.

Pirbhu Lal Satyani, Member Sindh/Minorities of the National Commission for Rights of Children (NCRC), took part in a stakeholder consultation on the Sindh Strategic Action Plan for Child Labour Eradication held in Karachi. The event was organised by the Labour & Human Resource Department in collaboration with UNICEF and brought together provincial and federal actors to refine steps against child labour.

Satyani called for stronger multi-stakeholder coordination to create livelihood opportunities for families, ensure the implementation of minimum wage standards and promote education for out-of-school and working children. He stressed that sustainable alternatives for families are essential to prevent children from entering or returning to work and to advance the child labour agenda across Sindh.

To improve enforcement he urged capacity building for labour inspectors, provision of field vehicles and the effective functioning of District Vigilance Committees (DVCs). Strengthening these implementation mechanisms, he said, will make the province’s response more responsive and timely when cases of child labour are identified.

The NCRC reaffirmed its readiness to provide technical support where required, and participants noted the importance of continued collaboration between the Labour & Human Resource Department, UNICEF Pakistan and the Ministry of Human Rights to translate the Sindh Strategic Action Plan into measurable results that protect children and uphold their right to education.
