Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi Marks World Day of Remembrance, Warns Road Accidents Claim Thousands of Lives in Pakistan
RAWALPINDI – Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi observed the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accident Victims, highlighting the devastating toll of road crashes across Pakistan and urging the public to adopt safer driving practices. The event was held under the directives of Secretary and Director General of the Emergency Services Department Punjab, Dr. Rizwan Naseer (Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz).
District Emergency Officer Rawalpindi, Engineer Sibghat Ullah, said that road accidents remain one of the country’s most critical public safety challenges, causing thousands of deaths and severe injuries every year. He noted that Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi remains fully prepared to provide rapid emergency response and lifesaving assistance to victims of crashes across the district.
Engineer Sibghat Ullah stressed that compliance with traffic laws is essential to reducing the rising number of road accidents. Citing a conservative estimate, he said Pakistan witnesses one road traffic accident every minute, a statistic that reflects the scale of the crisis. He added that every crash affects entire families, with many parents suffering the heartbreaking loss of their only child to injury, disability, or death. He urged motorcyclists to wear helmets and avoid using mobile phones while riding.
As part of the observance, Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi organized a road safety awareness walk and distributed informative pamphlets to educate the public on preventing accidents and adopting responsible driving behaviors.
The District Emergency Officer reaffirmed Rescue 1122’s commitment to responding swiftly to road emergencies and continuing its mission of public awareness, saying the department will keep working to save lives and reduce preventable tragedies on the roads.
