COMSTECH and Malaysia agree to deepen science cooperation with focus on halal research, healthcare capacity building and climate resilience across OIC states.

On 30 November 2025 in Islamabad, H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, held a high-level meeting with YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, to advance science cooperation between COMSTECH and Malaysia.

Officials described the discussion as ‘warm and forward-looking’ as both sides committed to expanding collaborative programmes in key developmental sectors. A central focus of the talks was Halal Research and Training, with participants emphasising work on global halal standards, certification processes and technological innovation to support the expanding halal industry.

Delegates also explored broad-based healthcare capacity building, highlighting opportunities for advanced training, technology transfer and institutional linkages among OIC Member States. Malaysia’s strong medical and biotechnology infrastructure was noted as an important resource that can bolster regional skill development and benefit Pakistani institutions involved in healthcare and bioscience.

Climate Resilience and Sustainability featured prominently in exchanges, with both leaders underscoring the need for coordinated scientific action to address environmental challenges facing many OIC countries. The conversation reflected a shared commitment to mobilise expertise and resources to strengthen climate adaptation and resilience programmes across the region.

Dr. Choudhary welcomed Malaysia’s readiness to deepen strategic engagement and highlighted the mutual advantages of closer cooperation. The two sides agreed to accelerate joint initiatives and to explore new avenues of partnership aimed at sustainable development and shared prosperity, signalling a practical step forward in science cooperation for the Muslim world.
