In Islamabad on 14 January 2026 a forward-looking meeting in the office of Mr. Humayon Khan, Additional Secretary and Managing Director of NEECA, brought together key stakeholders to resolve obstacles slowing the nationwide rollout of EV Charging Stations. Mr. Malik Khuda Baksh, CEO of Malik Group of Companies, outlined current operational barriers and next steps to speed deployment.
Participants discussed procedural delays that have hindered progress, including slow electricity connections, drawn-out separate meter installations and prolonged NOC approvals from relevant DISCOs and Oil Marketing Companies despite issuance of 13 NEECA licenses and the arrival of five EV charging units at designated sites. These bottlenecks are preventing planned sites from becoming operational and delaying the wider benefits of electric mobility across Pakistan.
Mr. Malik Khuda Baksh presented an approved roadmap to install 3,000 EV Charging Stations across the country, and Mr. Humayon Khan pledged full institutional support. The NEECA chief also expressed a strong commitment to scale the initiative further to 6,000 EV Charging Stations nationwide, stressing the importance of coordinated action between agencies and industry partners to meet targets.
The meeting addressed import-related issues for EV chargers, including customs duties, regulatory documentation and inter-agency coordination required for timely clearance and installation. Mr. Humayon Khan welcomed proposals on internationally compliant EV charger brands and requested a concise issue-and-solutions report within three days to enable prompt facilitation and effective implementation of the national green mobility initiative.
Officials agreed that resolving technical and regulatory hurdles quickly will be critical to unlocking investment and accelerating adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan. With clear recommendations and cooperation from DISCOs and Oil Marketing Companies, stakeholders said the EV Charging Stations network can move from pilot stages to a scalable national infrastructure that supports cleaner transport and economic opportunity.
