Ambassador Dr. Zahoor Ahmed signed the Instrument of Accession for Pakistan’s membership of the International Olive Council in Madrid, formalising Pakistan’s entry into the global olive community. The Executive Director of the International Olive Council, Mr. Jaime Lillo, officially welcomed Pakistan to the organisation.
Membership of the International Olive Council is expected to strengthen cooperation in olive cultivation, research, capacity building, quality standards and market development. This alignment with international partners will support efforts to raise production standards and improve the technical knowledge available to growers and processors in Pakistan.
For Pakistani stakeholders the accession opens pathways for enhanced research collaboration and targeted capacity building, helping local producers adopt recognised quality standards and explore new market development opportunities. The move signals a commitment to advancing the olive sector and to integrating Pakistan more closely with global best practices in olive cultivation and trade.
