A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi to strengthen cooperation in horticulture, sustainable landscaping, orchard development and community green initiatives. The ceremony at PMAS-AAUR saw the agreement formally endorsed by Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, and Brig. (r) Khurram Javed, Secretary DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman said the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions for society and bridging academia and industry for environmental development. The Arid University MoU is intended to create real opportunities for student learning, applied research and public awareness by combining university research with DHA’s community infrastructure.
Under the agreement, both institutions will collaborate on developing fruit orchards and enhancing landscaping throughout DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi areas. The programme will also include joint Fruit Galas to showcase local produce, encourage community participation and promote healthy, sustainable agricultural practices among residents of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
The collaboration is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, capacity building and the adoption of modern horticultural technologies. Practical training, field demonstrations and community outreach planned under the MoU aim to benefit local growers, residents and students while supporting greener public spaces within DHA communities.
With this partnership, PMAS-AAUR and DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi intend to translate research into visible urban greening projects, foster innovation in orchard management and raise public awareness of sustainable horticulture across the twin cities.
