Shahida Rahmani and Samina Khalid Ghurki, Pakistan Peoples Party MNAs, paid a moving Benazir Bhutto tribute at an event organised by the PPP Rawalpindi Divisional Women Wing on the former prime minister’s birthday. They said Benazir Bhutto’s services will always be remembered and praised her decisive steps to bring women into the national mainstream.
The speakers highlighted Benazir Bhutto’s role in introducing historic legislation and institutions for women, including the Women’s Bank and women police stations, calling these initiatives a lasting gift for Pakistani women. They said her legislative legacy advanced women’s rights and opened space for female participation in public life.
Speakers at the event, including Shagufta Butt, Samira Gul, Hifza Bukhari, Saadia Abbasi and Azra Yunus, reflected on Benazir Bhutto’s lifelong commitment to the poor and the sacrifices she made for democracy. They described recent successes for the party in Gilgit as a reward for those sacrifices and reaffirmed the PPP’s role as a voice for the underprivileged.
The gathering expressed confidence in Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, calling him the voice of the nation and voicing belief that under his leadership he will steer the party to national success and address pressing issues such as inflation. Speakers reiterated that the Benazir Bhutto tribute underscores the party’s unity and continued focus on social justice.
The programme concluded with a special prayer for the soul of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, as attendees paid respects to her memory and reaffirmed commitment to the causes she championed.
