ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday said World Population Day underlined the need to invest in young people and create opportunities enabling them to realise their full potential.
In his message on the occasion, the Chairman Senate referred to this year’s theme, “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people, today and for the future,” and said youth empowerment was essential for Pakistan’s sustainable development and prosperity.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said Pakistan’s large youth population was a valuable national asset. He noted that access to quality education, healthcare, skills development and employment opportunities could help young people become a driving force for economic growth and social progress.
He observed that rapid population growth continued to place pressure on education, healthcare, employment, water resources and other public services. He stressed the need for effective population management, greater awareness of family planning, improved maternal and child health services, and sustained investment in human capital.
The Chairman Senate reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting policies aimed at population stabilisation, youth empowerment, gender equality and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. He called for collective efforts by all stakeholders to secure a brighter and more prosperous future for Pakistan’s younger generations.
