Pakistan senior hockey team trains in Lahore ahead of the World Cup

LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation has launched an intensive training camp for the Pakistan senior men’s national hockey team in Lahore as part of preparations for the upcoming Hockey World Cup.

According to the PHF, the camp, which began on July 11, 2026, is being conducted under the direct supervision of the national coaching staff. The programme follows a high performance model combining modern sports science, technical improvement and strategic planning to strengthen the team’s competitiveness at international level.

Coaches are working with the players on a daily basis to improve individual skills, tactical awareness and team coordination. The training sessions have been structured to sharpen decision making under pressure and improve match fitness.

The federation has also upgraded the players’ fitness programme, with daily assessments being carried out to monitor progress and maintain physical conditioning. Sports nutrition experts have reviewed and improved the team’s dietary plans to support energy levels, recovery and performance during the camp.

For the first time, the PHF has introduced advanced GPS monitoring devices in training. The system provides real time data on player speed, endurance, workload and recovery rates, giving the coaching staff a clearer picture of each player’s physical output.

The GPS data is being studied alongside detailed video analysis to identify areas requiring improvement and to make timely changes in training methods. PHF officials said this approach is aimed at making preparations more focused and measurable.

The training programme is also being supported by international coaches, who are working with the PHF’s local coaching staff. The collaboration is intended to help Pakistani players prepare in line with global standards ahead of the World Cup.

PHF officials said player development remains a continuous process and the camp has been designed to identify talent, address weaknesses and build a squad capable of producing consistent performances at the highest level.

“Our preparations are based on a clear roadmap. With discipline, scientific training methods, and hard work, we are confident that the team’s performance will improve significantly, Insha’Allah,” a PHF spokesperson said.

The camp reflects the federation’s stated commitment to rebuilding Pakistan hockey and preparing the national side for a strong showing at the upcoming World Cup.
