Arid University strengthens Pak-China academic collaboration

PMAS-AAUR represented Pakistan at the GEO-STEP International Summer School held at Henan University, China.

RAWALPINDI: The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has strengthened Pakistan-China academic and scientific collaboration through its participation in the GEO-STEP International Summer School held at Henan University, China.

According to a press release issued on September 3, 2026, the international summer school brought together 50 participants, including 26 international participants, providing a platform for academic exchange, scientific discussion and cross-cultural learning.

Representing PMAS-AAUR, Dr Tahir Iqbal, Associate Professor, delivered a lecture titled “Smart Agriculture in Arid Regions: Localized Innovation and Practical Applications of Precision Agriculture Technologies in Pakistan.”

In his presentation, Dr Iqbal highlighted Pakistan’s experiences and innovations in smart sensing, precision irrigation, precision agriculture and climate-resilient farming, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.

Students from Arid University also took part in academic presentations during the summer school and secured second prize in the Student Presentation Competition, marking a notable achievement for the university at an international academic forum.

The participation reflected the university’s growing engagement in international academic and research activities and contributed to cooperation between Pakistan and China in agricultural education, research and modern technology.
