ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan has launched a dedicated mobile application to digitise its legislative business, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to build a technology-enabled and paperless Parliament.
The launch ceremony was held at Parliament House on September 8, 2026, with Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attending as the chief guest. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja also attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister termed the initiative a significant step forward in Pakistan’s Digital Nation agenda. She said the digitisation of Parliament reflected the government’s commitment to modern, transparent and technology-driven governance.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative represented digital governance made tangible — sovereign in design, indigenous in capability and accountable by architecture. She added that efficiency in the House was not merely an administrative convenience but also democratic responsiveness.
The minister commended the leadership of the Senate Secretariat for championing the initiative. She also reaffirmed the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication’s continued support in providing technical expertise, infrastructure and security frameworks required to sustain such projects across state institutions.
The mobile application will enable senators to access legislative documents, the Order of the Day, bills, resolutions, committee reports and other parliamentary business directly on their smartphones and handheld devices. The initiative is aimed at eliminating the need for printed paperwork and streamlining the legislative workflow.
According to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, the application will provide access to Senate agendas, bills and session schedules, along with a digital repository of legislative documents, motions and committee proceedings. It will also provide timely notifications on ongoing parliamentary business, significantly reducing reliance on paper-based processes.
The Senate’s mobile application is part of Pakistan’s wider push towards e-governance, which includes similar digitisation efforts already underway at the National Assembly and several provincial assemblies.
As the government’s focal ministry for coordinating technology-driven reforms across public institutions, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Parliament in ensuring the successful rollout and continued enhancement of the application.
