RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Peoples Party leader and President of Taraqqi Pasand Falahai Tanzeem Mohammad Aamir Siddiqui has said that poverty, extremism and inequality are serious threats to peace and stability.
Speaking on the occasion of World Peace Day, he said peace did not merely mean the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, equality and mutual respect among nations.
Aamir Siddiqui said the international community would have to immediately stop aggression and atrocities by Israel, the United States and India. He said implementation of the Islamabad Peace Agreement by the parties was the guarantee of peace and stability, while deviation from the agreement was becoming an obstacle in the way of peace and prosperity.
He said the India-Israel nexus and unchecked aggression continued to pose a threat to world peace. He added that peace in South Asia was linked to a lasting solution of the Kashmir issue. He said the Indian siege of occupied Kashmir had completed 2,604 days and that resolution of disputes was the guarantee of peace and stability.
Aamir Siddiqui said peace was undoubtedly the foundation of development and prosperity, without which democracy weakened, justice faded and the human spirit was wounded.
He said that on this day, tribute was also paid to the founders of Pakistan, ancestors and the martyred leadership of the party, who had dreamt of a peaceful homeland based on dignity and justice and rendered sacrifices for its realisation.
He said the PPP had always advocated peace at the global level in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
He said true peace could not be established through silence or coercion. For peace, he added, social justice, empowerment of deprived sections and protection of basic human rights were essential.
Aamir Siddiqui said a peaceful Pakistan was not only the desire of the people but also a sacred trust for future generations.
He said humanity would always bear the burden of shame over the atrocities committed by the occupying forces of Israel and India. He said humanity would remain ashamed of the Israeli forces’ atrocities in Gaza and the brutality of the Indian army in occupied Kashmir.
He said these tragedies were not merely regional issues, but wounds on the conscience of humanity, demanding immediate action and firm resolve from the world.
Aamir Siddiqui said the PPP’s struggle for a peaceful, democratic and progressive Pakistan would continue. He said the PPP was actively working to build a Pakistan fully based on the vision of Quaid-e-Azam — a Pakistan that could play an effective role for peace, stability and cooperation in the world.
