ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s decorated F-Class long-range shooter and sports psychologist Mohsin Nawaz has vowed to dedicate his expertise to improving the mental preparedness of the country’s athletes, stressing that correct mental orientation must become a key pillar in Pakistan’s pursuit of international sporting success.
Mohsin, a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Lifetime Achievement Award, has served as Pakistan’s first official sports psychologist at the 6th World Nomad Games 2026. He is now advocating a nationwide shift towards psychological resilience, emotional regulation and performance optimisation alongside physical training.
According to him, Pakistani sportspersons need structured mental preparation to convert their raw potential into podium finishes at major international events. His proposed approach focuses on pressure management, reduction of stress and anxiety, goal setting, visualisation and simulated-pressure training.
The simulated training, he believes, can allow athletes to experience competition-like situations during practice, helping them build composure, focus and confidence when competing in unfamiliar environments.
“Rather than attempting to eliminate competitive pressure, our goal must be to equip athletes with practical tools to manage it and remain focused on execution,” Mohsin noted, referring to his experience in F-Class long-range shooting, where concentration and emotional control are vital.
His standing in elite sport is also supported by international roles, including his position as an official brand ambassador for Kahles Optics and Peregrine Bullets, along with his key association with HawkSmith Gun & Sporting Club.
Mohsin also highlighted an initiative being developed with HawkSmith, which he described as being of national strategic importance. The project is aimed at introducing premium shooting and sports facilities in Pakistan, promoting a planned and professional sports lifestyle among the country’s youth.
The initiative seeks to provide modern infrastructure and athletic development pathways for the next generation.
Mohsin urged sports federations and coaches across the country to integrate psychological assessments, athlete profiling and team cohesion programmes well before international assignments. He emphasised that mental readiness should become a continuous part of athlete development.
Through systematic mental conditioning, Mohsin said he aims to help Pakistani athletes enter international arenas with composure, resilience and a result-oriented mindset.
