The problem of overcharging is not unique to Daman-i-Koh; it has been noted at other picnic areas as well, where merchants and kiosk holders offer beverages and food at greater prices than they should be.
Visitors frequently complain that the vendors in several locations have overcharged them for the use of the play spaces for children that they have built up in conjunction with the Capital Development Authority and the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).
The CDA and DMA have given permission to a number of different people to set up children’s play facilities in a number of different sites, including Shakarparian and Lake View Park, without holding any type of competitive bidding process.
An official indicated that the CDA could collect millions of rupees per month if these sites were auctioned out, but there is a mafia that manages such sites for extremely low costs.
After receiving numerous complaints from members of the public regarding excessive pricing in Daman-i-Koh, the chairman of the CDA stated that he had no choice but to take disciplinary action against the relevant personnel.
He highlighted that such methods will not be accepted, and he will investigate the allegations of overcharging that have been made at other picnic areas.
In the event that any regulations are broken, disciplinary action would be taken not only against the vendors but also against the relevant CDA authorities.
