Al-Khidmat Foundation District Gujrat distributed winter packages valued at Rs7 million among 1,000 flood-affected families yesterday, delivering essential bedding and supplies as temperatures begin to drop across the region.
The distribution ceremony in Gujrat featured Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Dr. Tariq Saleem as the chief guest. Joining him were Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami District Gujrat Chaudhry Ansar Mahmood Dhoul, President Al-Khidmat Foundation District Gujrat Raja Sajid Sharif, Deputy Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami District Gujrat Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas Warraich, Raja Naeem Khawar, President Pakistan Business Forum Gujrat Haji Muhammad Aslam Javed, Dr. Ishaq and Chaudhry Safdar Warraich, among others who supported the relief effort.
Dr. Tariq Saleem praised the resolve of Al-Khidmat and Jamaat-e-Islami volunteers, saying their teams had been active from the first day of the floods. “Our volunteers provided rescue services, medical care, ready-to-eat meals, medicines, and dry rations without any discrimination,” he said, noting that the current winter relief distribution is meant to shield vulnerable households from the coming cold.
Speaking candidly about local governance, Dr. Saleem criticized the Punjab government and long-standing political families in Gujrat for inadequate flood management and deteriorating infrastructure. He warned that prolonged neglect of affected communities could not be overlooked and reiterated the importance of sustained relief and rehabilitation alongside immediate winter relief efforts.
The Al-Khidmat winter relief drive underscores a focused humanitarian response for flood-affected communities in Gujrat, combining emergency aid and preventative support to reduce hardship as winter approaches.
