Ambassador Oumer Urges ICT Cooperation with Pakistan

Ambassador Oumer met Pakistan's IT minister to advance ICT cooperation via training, tech transfer and Digital Ethiopia 2030 exchanges to boost youth skills.

H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, met H.E. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, at her Islamabad office to discuss ways to deepen ICT cooperation between the two capitals.

The meeting focused on building stronger institutional linkages, launching joint training programmes and arranging official delegation exchanges to support human resource development. Both sides emphasised the importance of practical knowledge exchange to improve soft skills and technical capacity across government and industry.

Ambassador Dr. Oumer outlined the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy and highlighted its role in modernising governance and driving economic growth. He stressed initiatives to promote emerging technologies among youth, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, as key pillars of the strategy that could align with Pakistanโ€™s digital priorities.

Discussions also covered technology transfer to strengthen ICT infrastructure and services in both countries. The ambassador argued that sustained ICT cooperation and shared expertise are essential for achieving sustainable development goals across the Global South.

The Federal Minister welcomed deeper ties with Ethiopia and reiterated Pakistanโ€™s commitment to expand collaboration with African partners. She described Ethiopia as a gateway to Africa and expressed support for accelerated exchanges that benefit youth skills development and national digital transformation efforts.
