On May 13, 2026 Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi organised a campus cleanliness campaign led by Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, drawing Deans, Directors, faculty members, administrative officers, staff and students into a coordinated effort to improve the university environment. The event underlined the institution’s focus on campus cleanliness and civic responsibility.

The Vice Chancellor emphasised that a clean environment is essential for public health and is a mark of a responsible, civilised society. He said a university’s role extends beyond education to character building and social duty, urging everyone to treat campus cleanliness as a shared obligation.

Speaking directly to students, he reminded them that they are the nation’s future and encouraged them to make cleanliness part of their daily routine. He asked students to take responsibility for maintaining order in classrooms, corridors and communal areas, and to set an example for peers through consistent, positive action.

Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman also acknowledged the active participation of faculty and administrative officers, noting that their involvement demonstrates the university’s commitment to academic excellence as well as to environmental awareness and national responsibility.

During the campaign participants moved across the campus collecting litter such as empty juice cans, plastic shoppers and other waste materials. Many volunteers filled multiple garbage bags, converting the message of campus cleanliness into practical, visible results that improved the appearance and hygiene of university grounds.

At the close of the campaign all attendees reaffirmed their intention to continue cleanliness drives and to organise further environmentally friendly activities and awareness sessions, with the aim of strengthening responsible citizenship among students and staff across the university.
