CEWG Meeting Advances Pakistan Family Planning

CEWG Meeting in Lahore advanced CCI recommendations and the National Action Plan on Population with partners, focusing on contraceptive security and SBCC progress.

On 8 and 9 December 2025 in Lahore, the Population Program Wing of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination convened the Sub-Groups meeting of the Country Engagement Working Group (CEWG), followed by the 39th meeting of the CEWG. Organized with support from UNFPA and in coordination with the Health and Population Department, Government of Punjab, the sessions brought together representatives from Provincial and Regional Population Welfare Departments, Departments of Health, UNFPA, FP2030, Pathfinder, Jhpiego, RIZ Consulting and other key development partners.

Participants used the CEWG Meeting as a platform to comprehensively review progress on implementing the CCI Recommendations and the National Action Plan on Population. Deliberations concentrated on contraceptive commodity security, federal and provincial procurement updates, communication and media interventions, and progress on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) strategies aimed at improving uptake and access.

Technical briefings at the CEWG Meeting highlighted enhancements to data reporting mechanisms with updates on the CCI Web Portal and the cLMIS, emphasising the need for stronger supply chain visibility and timely reporting to support contraceptive security across provinces.

Delegates also received debriefs on international best practices shared at the 7th International Conference on Family Planning in Bogotá and reviewed presentations on the Draft National SBCC Campaign and SBCC Strategic Guidelines, which aim to align communication efforts across federal and provincial levels.

The Ministry expressed appreciation for the active engagement and meaningful contributions of federal, provincial, regional and development partners. Officials noted that sustained collaboration and coordinated action following the CEWG Meeting are vital for strengthening national coordination frameworks and advancing Pakistan’s family planning and reproductive health agenda.

Moving forward, participants agreed to prioritise implementation of actions arising from the CEWG Meeting, maintain close coordination on procurement and data systems, and accelerate SBCC interventions to ensure contraceptive security and improved reproductive health outcomes nationwide.
