A specialized one-day training program on cybercrime was organized for judges in Sindh, aimed at enhancing their understanding of digital offenses and the legal processes involved in investigating and prosecuting such cases. The event brought together legal experts and investigators to provide comprehensive insights into the challenges and procedures related to cybercrime in Pakistan.

The training featured Advocate Mukesh Kumar, a High Court lawyer, and Inspector Mumtaz Hussain from the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Wing in Sindh, as key trainers. The program began with an introduction to cybercrime, focusing on the most common types encountered in Pakistan, such as online fraud, identity theft, and harassment.

Participants were then provided with a detailed overview of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), including relevant legal provisions that guide the prosecution of cyber offenses. This session aimed to familiarize the judges with the key features of Pakistan’s primary legislation dealing with electronic crimes.

Another session addressed investigation procedures and rules, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms used by the FIA. Trainers discussed the responsibilities of investigating officers during a cybercrime investigation, including the seizure and recovery of digital evidence, the processes for arrest and search, and the special considerations required when evidence must be obtained from service providers outside the local jurisdiction of the court.

The program also delved into trial procedures, the appreciation of evidence, and the unique challenges faced by judicial officers, especially in cases involving sexual offenses committed through digital means. This session aimed to help judges better understand the nuances of evaluating electronic evidence and navigating complex legal scenarios.

The training concluded with an address by Mr. Noor Muhammad Kalmati, a faculty member from the Sindh Judicial Academy. Certificates were distributed to participants, and the event ended with a group photograph to commemorate the collaborative effort to strengthen the judiciary’s capacity in handling cybercrime cases.
