**Promotions End Eight-Year Stalemate at Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency**

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has promoted three senior officers of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) to Director positions, breaking an administrative impasse that has lasted since 2017. The decision—widely hailed as a turning point for institutional development at Pak-EPA—was made under the leadership of Secretary Aisha Humaira and Director General Nazia Zaib, who are credited with implementing long-awaited reforms.

According to official notifications, Mr. Aamir Abbas Khan has been promoted from Deputy Director (Legal/Enforcement) to Director (Admin, Legal & Enforcement); Dr. Mohsina Zubair has advanced from Deputy Director (Lab/NEQS) to Director (Lab/NEQS); and Mr. Khalid Mehmood Chadhar has assumed the role of Director (EIA/Monitoring), stepping up from his previous post in Environmental Engineering/Technology Transfer. All three officers had been eligible for elevation according to civil service regulations, but their promotions were stalled for years despite repeated legal directives.

Sources within the agency attribute the prolonged delay to hesitancy on the part of former Director General Ms. Farzana Altaf Shah, who refrained from executing the promotions even after formal court orders were issued.

In a related move, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency has assigned Mr. Mian Ejaz Majeed the look-after charge of Director (Legal), succeeding Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Manik. This appointment was authorized by the Secretary of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department in Lahore and is effective immediately.

The recent promotions have been welcomed by agency staff and observers as a vital step towards strengthening the institution and boosting employee morale. Officials have praised the initiatives of Secretary Aisha Humaira and DG Nazia Zaib for restoring a culture of merit-based progression, addressing bottlenecks that had negatively impacted motivation and performance in Pak-EPA.

Analysts suggest the bolstered leadership will enhance regulatory oversight, particularly within legal enforcement, laboratory standards, and environmental impact assessments. These improvements are considered crucial as Pakistan continues to combat pressing issues such as pollution, climate change, and industrial compliance.
